In no particular order...... Create a goal for yourself of where you want to go and what you expect to become. This will help you stay on course, and lets you know when you have achieved “success.” Do not take criticism as a personal attack or allow it to negatively impact your perfomance and objectives. Learn to welcome and accept the constructive merits of criticism and take action based upon this information. Remember that failure is necessary to achieve success. Indeed, sometimes it is necesary to fail so you will know what not to do the next time. The only real failure would be not learning from the setback. Do not be afraid to take risks. Only by doing so can you guage your own capabilities and the expectations or assumptions of others. Becoming a leader involves understanding the tasks to complete a job, taking ownership of these tasks and doing whatever is ethically possible to accomplish these tasks. Do not wait for or expect others to do the job for you. Remember these very important 10 words of two letters each "If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me" Spend your time working on and solving important high-profile problems that have a major positive impact for your company. You are ultimately responsible for your performance and career. Your boss, your company and everyone else is merely on the bus with you. Be positive and responsible for your own attitude. A positive attitude will lead to positive results at work, home and in life. Try to distance yourself from negative actions and people that may drag you down. Be persistent and don't give up until it becomes obvious to you that you are fighting the unwinable battle. Do not be afraid to escalate issue within work to a higher level or ask for assistance. Remember life's golden rule of treat others as you would like to be treated. It will come back to either haunt you or reward you.
